Inside Line Promotions – ORRVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 4, 2019) – Greg Wilson garnered a pair of top 10s in his home state of Ohio last weekend to highlight a busy slate of action with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions.

Wilson and his Hercules Tires, DNC Hydraulics, Ohio Logistics and Gear Off Road sponsored team opened the weekend on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, where an opening-lap incident in a heat race buried Wilson for the remainder of the night. He rebounded by placing third in the B Main and charging from 23rd to eighth in the main event, earning the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“We’re fairly good at Attica,” he said. “I felt like that was a place we had a shot at winning. To get torn up on the first lap of the heat race is not cool. We patched it up, but it bent up a lot of stuff. We struggled early in the feature and then partway through I got my wing back and that helped. The track came to us and that helped, too. We had a restart late in the race and we got by quite a few cars in the last few laps.”

Wilson returned to the bullring on Saturday for the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic. He had similar circumstances early in the night as he transferred through the B Main before maneuvering from 22nd to 14th in the main event, once again capturing the Hard Charger Award.

“I was frustrated with myself,” he said. “I made the call to leave the car freed up for the feature. We passed cars, but we were better the night before with a bent up race car. It was my fault. That’s the rough part when you’re doing a lot of it by the seat of your pants. The night before I felt like we were too tight early. The track was a little more wet on Saturday through the whole night. I thought we better not get carried away so we can maneuver early on. We made some moves and then flattened out and couldn’t do a whole lot.”

Sunday’s All Star event was rained out before a show on Monday at Wayne County Speedway wrapped up the holiday weekend. Wilson produced his best night, qualifying ninth quickest overall and fastest in his group. He powered from fourth to second in a heat race before winning a dash despite a close call on the final lap.

“More than anything you start feeling comfortable in the race car and things start going better; confidence breeds confidence,” he said. “I felt like after the dash when you can run wheel to wheel with (Aaron) Reutzel right now you’re getting close. Rolling into the A Main I went in with the attitude, after all but wrecking on the last lap of the dash, I needed to keep calm to not junk the thing and be there at the end.”

Unfortunately, the right rear radius rod and Jacob’s Ladder broke midway through the race and Wilson, who was battling for a podium, held on for a seventh-place finish.

“We were cruising along, trying not to hit the holes wrong,” he said. “We fell to fourth or fifth and I got myself back to third. I’m assuming that’s when it broke. To hang on and not have anything dumb happen, it was a situation that could have easily dropped us out, yet we managed to hold on to a top 10. I feel like if we don’t break we’re a top-three car, but that’s part of it.”

Wilson remains sixth in the championship standings heading into All Star races this Thursday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa.; and Friday and Saturday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa.
