Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2014) – Chase Johnson created a lot of momentum last Saturday during his final tune-up for the 21st annual Trophy Cup.

Johnson overcame early issues as he rallied from 15th to a sixth-place result in the Harry Talbot Classic Memorial at Thunderbowl Raceway, where he will return on Oct. 16-18 for the prestigious Trophy Cup.

“It was another night with a rough start, but we definitely got it turned around,” he said. “It gives us good momentum heading into Trophy Cup. I’m really excited to head back there in two weeks.”

Johnson opened last Saturday by qualifying 18th quickest, which was only two spots outside of the heat race inversion.

“In qualifying we went out in the last half and the car had a really bad hop on the right rear,” he said. “It never wanted to stay on the left rear. It made the car really tight and hard to manage. When we came in we found we had a bad left rear shock.”

The team swapped the shock prior to Johnson’s heat race, which he finished fifth – one spot out of locking into the main event. However, a driver who finished ahead of Johnson endured mechanical issues and couldn’t start the main event so it moved Johnson into the feature.

Johnson, who lined up on the inside of the eighth row for the main event, methodically maneuvered through the field.

“We had a really good car,” he said. “We also had some luck turn around on us and we were able to survive some nasty wrecks. It was kind of a survival of the fittest type of race and we had a good showing in the main.”

Johnson’s sixth-place finish marked his 15th top 10 of the season.

He is scheduled to race at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., this Saturday.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Newman Freeman Racing

During the 1976 auto racing season, actor Paul Newman became interested in forming a professional auto racing team and contacted Bill Freeman from Santa Barbara. Freeman is credited as the man who introduced Newman to professional auto racing management and their company specialized in Can-Am, Indy Cars and other high performance racing automobiles.

“The reason Paul Newman got into racing was because of a guy named Bill Freeman,” Johnson said. “Bill hasn’t really been involved in racing since Paul’s death so we really appreciate his support and partnership.”

Johnson would also like to thank Johnny Franklin’s Mufflers, PitStopUSA.com, Shifty Illusions, Napa Auto Parts, Flowmaster, Don’s Truck Repair, VSR, Fast Lube Plus, K&N Filters, Oroville Cycle, I-Wear Graphix, Driven Raceway, Nor-Cal Transmission, Justin Henry Racing and Chevron Pro-Gas for their continued support.
