Inside Line Promotions – PENNGROVE, Calif. (Nov. 28, 2017) – Chase Johnson produced his career-best season in 2017.

Johnson scored six feature victories, including his first in a 410ci winged sprint car and his first ever while racing with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.

“This was my most consistent year overall,” he said. “We had a high number of top fives and top 10s as well.”

Johnson captured four outlaw kart wins, including two last weekend when he swept the Kart Nationals in Chowchilla, Calif. He also earned outlaw kart victories at Lakeport Indoor Speedway in Lakeport, Calif., in January and at Cycleland Speedway in Oroville, Calif., in July.

“It’s highly competitive and it’s something that will keep me fresh,” he said. “Being in a car, no matter what car it is, keeps you fresh. Thankfully McClish Motorsports has given me a great ride and we’ve won four times together this year.”

Johnson’s biggest victories of the season were in the winged sprint car ranks as he earned a trip to Victory Lane on June 9 at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., and on June 17 at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif.

His first career 410 win came in his Chase Johnson Racing No. 24 at Silver Dollar Speedway, where he’d been trying to win since he started his career.

“Growing up in California, Silver Dollar Speedway was known across the map in sprint car racing,” he said. “To win there and to win in a 410 was pretty special. I’d been trying to get a win there for several years so it was a big accomplishment.

“I remember we went quick time to start the night and we started sixth in the main event. We had a fast car and a great setup the whole night. It was a brand new car we brought out and there were no issues with it. We drove right up there and got the lead just after the midpoint of the race. It was a fun night.”

Johnson backed it up the following weekend when he recorded his first win with Shawn and Cyndi Thomas while competing in California’s 410 sprint car tour.

“To get Shawn and Cyndi their first win was the goal heading into this year,” Johnson said. “It was really special. Then to do it at our home track with all of our family, friends and sponsors watching topped it off.”

Johnson had numerous other stout performances this season, including making the A Main during his preliminary night at the Knoxville Nationals.

“We had a lot of good runs in the non-wing sprint car, including Sprint Week and at the Louie Vermeil Classic,” he said. “When we went to Knoxville we had great success there, too. I feel like we were always a contender no matter what track we went to or what car I was in.”

Johnson said he will take the momentum from this year’s breakout performance into the offseason, when he will compete in a handful of outlaw kart races along with the Chili Bowl Nationals. Johnson recently landed a ride with Morris Motorsports to race for the fourth time during the prestigious midget event in January.
