Lutz Batting .600 at I-90 Speedway

by Steve Zwemke

HARTFORD, SD — If, in fact, we were talking baseball statistics, Eric Lutz would be a .600 hitter and his slugging percentage would be off the charts. Lutz made it three wins in five starts Saturday as he captured the Hard Core Speed Shop 360 Sprint Car feature on Hard Core Speed Shop Night at I-90 Speedway. Dale Furby led 12 solid laps before getting caught in slower traffic. Furby cleared one backmarker with Lutz on his tail but a second car in close proximity slowed him enough for Lutz to steal the lead. Furby continued to follow in second until the final lap when his car started to get sideways coming out of the second turn. Amazingly, Furby saved his car from a total spin and kept it going to eek out a Top 5 finish. Troy Schreurs got by Furby for a second place finish. Ryan Bickett and Dusty Ballenger also got by Furby on the final lap for third and fourth. Lutz called the win bittersweet as his dad and chief mechanic was on vacation and missed the race. “I’ll have to give him a call tonight and let him know,” said Lutz in victory lane. Lutz’s two non-wins at I-90 Speedway this season have been third place finishes. Now that’s stepping up to the plate!
