Trenca Endures Confusing Night with URC during Jack Gunn Memorial

Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (May 3, 2016) – Joe Trenca had a bewildering night last Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway with the United Racing Club.

The Mucci Motorsports driver kicked off the Jack Gunn Memorial by qualifying 10th quickest, which lined him up on the pole for a heat race.

“We probably could have been a little better in qualifying, but it put us in a good position for the heat race,” he said. “I got the jump on the heat from the start and we led every lap and won by a couple of seconds.”

That locked Trenca into the feature inversion, where he drew the No. 3.

“Somehow that put us starting seventh in the main event,” he said. “It’s confusing. Nobody knows why we started seventh, but we did.

“Everyone was pretty even up front in the main event. I felt like I had a tire going down and lost three positions. We were running in 10th and had a caution just after the midpoint of the race. The race went green again and I had a tire blow, but they threw a caution for somebody else.”

Trenca stopped on the track during the caution just as rain began to douse the area. Cars were ushered to the pits and eventually the race was called because of the inclement weather.

“The URC scored us 10th in their press release recap and Selinsgrove said we finished 21st,” he said. “It’s a confusing thing whether the race was official when that last yellow was waved before we stopped or if they said it was official after we had stopped on the track.”

Trenca will resume competition this Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Saturday at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in Canandaigua, N.Y., with the Patriot Sprint Tour.
