Inside Line Promotions – BELLEVILLE, Kan. (Aug. 8, 2017) – Zach Blurton continued his streak of fantastic finishes last weekend when he scored a pair of podium results to take over the lead in the United Rebel Sprint Series championship standings.

Blurton travelled to Rush County Speedway in LaCrosse, Kan., on Friday to kick off the weekend.

“We started fifth in the heat and jumped into second right away and just rode there,” he said. “They watered the track and it looked like it would be narrow. We worked on the car and the track slicked off and got racy.

“I started third (in the A Main) and was faster than the first two guys, but it was so narrow getting into turn three and on a quarter mile there’s not much room anyway. I got bottled up behind the guy ahead of me and another car got around us. I finally got into second and started to reel in the leader. I needed a caution and it would have been interesting. We ended up second. I’m not near aggressive enough. We have one car so I can’t chance doing too much.”

Blurton took his runner-up result at the quarter-mile oval and he ventured to the Belleville High Banks’ half-mile track on Saturday.

“Normally this time of year it’s really hot and humid and this year the track started really wet and the weather was cool and cloudy,” he said. “We won our heat and because we started outside front row for the feature we changed gears trying to get a little more speed and that hurt us on the start.

“The track really slicked off in the feature and we had the car just a little too free. It was a really good weekend for our team though. We took over the URSS points lead and we are looking to finish strong and win that championship. I could be the first driver to win the Kansas Region, which we did two years ago, the Colorado Region, which we did last year, and the national.”

Blurton, who finished third, is keeping his options open for this weekend based on the weather.
