Rough night at the Ozarks

Austin Alumbaugh and the Medicine Shoppe #33 team headed south to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, MO for the tracks season opener. The night started off exciting having around 25 cars sign in. The track proved to be very fast with multiple grooves to race on, the high side being Austin's preferred line.

With a good pill draw for the heat race, Austin started pole of the third heat. At the drop of the green flag, the Medicine Shoppe #33 set a blistering pace jumping into the lead immediately. Leading from green to checkered, Austin captured the win!

“The car is really quick, you’ve got to hustle it to be fast here. I think we’ve got a shot at winning tonight!” Austin says after the win in his heat race.

With Austin's heat race win, he was set to start in the third position for the A main feature event. On the initial start, the track proved to be treacherous with rough track conditions at one end. On lap two while battling for second place, Austin ran into turns one and two hard knocking the right front tire off of the bead. This sent the Medicine Shoppe #33 for a wild ride ending in the fence between turns one and two, thus, ending his night and chances of contending for the win.

“I knew when we rolled out on the racetrack that one and two was going to be interesting. There were a lot of ruts that couldn’t be seen until you got on the track. We were really good on the bottom of one and two the first lap but when I went to go there on the second lap while battling Shirshekan for second place, I couldn’t get on the bottom because he was there. Once we got to bouncing on the high side, there wasn’t anything I could do. It is frustrating because we had a really good car tonight and we were looking to put on a good show,” Austin says disappointed about the end result of the A main.

Looking ahead: Austin’s next point race with the ASCS Warrior Region will be May 29, 2011 at Jesse Hockett’s XX Speedway in California, MO.
