Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway would be in action on Saturday July 2nd for T-Shirt Night. The track would host the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and the Quality RV Repair Hornets.

After a couple of incidents that prevented the first lap from being complete it would be Cooper Desbiens opening up the race as the leader in the Clark Printing Extreme Sprints. The Sutherlin teenager would retain the top spot until he was passed on lap three by Orion Redmond. Redmond, from Roseburg, would blaze the trail the rest of the way despite briefly getting held up in traffic on the final couple of laps. It was the first victory of the season for Redmond.

Cooper Desbiens was second followed by Creswell’s Raquel Ivie in third. Cottage Grove native Patrick Dills crossed the wire in fourth while the fifth place finisher was Dave Hibbard.

The IMCA Modified feature would be a caution plagued affair. A total of nine stoppages would occur and brought about several restarts. Pleasant Hill’s Justin Austin would grab the initial lead in his Art Hiatt owned entry. On lap four Craig Hanson would make the pass around Austin for the position. Eight of the nine cautions happened after Hanson took the top spot which meant he had to master the restarts. Hanson would retain the coveted position each and every time to win his second race of the year at CGS.

Curtis Towns, of Cottage Grove, finished in the runner-up position and Klamath Falls’ Nick Trenchard placed third in the Rich and Nicky Biehn owned machine. Steven Sturdavant from Springfield got fourth and Coquille’s Ryan Baker completed the top five in fifth.

The Street Stocks would be on the card for a non-point affair. Matt King, now residing in Springfield, paced the field early in the main event. By lap seven Cottage Grove’s Bo Eastman would lead the charge but Eastman would be overtaken by Evan Britton after a lap nine restart. Britton, who is also from Cottage Grove, would dominate the remaining distance to win his first race of the season.

Matt King would end his night second while Troy Chamberlain finished third. Bo Eastman was fourth and Redmond’s Scott Lehman got fifth.

Last but not least was the Quality RV Repair Hornets. Veneta’s Brad Moffett lead the opening circuit but would lose it to Josh Corley of Westfir on the second time around. Corley held on to first place for much of the race until he would get involved in a incident in lapped traffic on lap thirteen. This would give the position to Joe Maricle. Maricle, of Veneta, would stay in front of the field to win his sixth race of 2016 and third straight victory.

Brad Moffett was second and Springfield’s K.C. Scott crossed the stripe in third. Junction City native Marcel Forte would place fourth and Goshen’s Brandon Norton was fifth.

Cottage Grove Speedway is in action on Independence Day, Monday July 4th, and for Speedweek Northwest. 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, and Street Stocks will all be racing during the evening. Fireworks will cap the whole night off in massive display once all the action on the track has been completed.
