Poel Continues Win Streak with Michigan Dirt Cup Victory

Lake Odessa, Michigan (Saturday June 6th, 2014): The Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Modifieds were forced to postpone their last attempt to run the I-96 Speedway back on May 16th. But Friday night at the Lake Odessa, Michigan speedway fans were treated to sunny skies and comfortable temperatures when the traveling series of the best modified drivers in and around the state of Michigan invaded the grounds. The program also featured action from the UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds, Pro Stocks / Pro Trucks, UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, and UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts.

Cole Speckin picked up the feature win for the UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts. Ryan Brady ended up finishing in the runner up spot. Brady won the lone heat race.

The UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks held their main event feature which Muskegon, Michigan driver Sadie Klein pick up her first win after starting second for her first I-96 Speedway win of the year. Rick Huisken, Richard Hyvarinen, Ron Harper, and Jim Beltz rounded out the top five. Defending UMP DIRTcar Street Stock National Champion Josh Frye, Harper, and Luke Hubbell were the heat race winners.

Jeff Kohn was the big winner for the Pro Stocks / Pro Trucks division. He finished ahead of Dan Hubbell who was second. Don Rohn, Jesse Playter, and Mark Davis completed the top five. Rohn was the victor of the lone heat race.

The UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds would see Johnny DeYoung make the trip to victory lane. Chad Mauer had to settle for the second place finish. Kenny Playter, Travis Fisher, and Andrew James finished the top five. Mauer, and Jerry Hunt won the heat races.

Finally, the Allstar Performance Michigan Dirt Cup Tour presented by Lane Automotive went head to heat for their 40-lap A-Main. Ryan Ritchie and Bob Baldwin led the 20-car field down to chief starter Brett Farmer’s Green Flag. 2011 track champion Jacob Poel would take home the checkered flag and $2000 payday. Brian Ruhlman finished in second. Mark Anderson, Defending track champion Travis Stemler, and two time and Defending UMP DIRTcar Michigan State and Dirt Cup Tour Champion David Mielke capped off the top five. The preliminary heat races were won by Poel, Stemler, and Mielke. The fast qualifiers in group qualifying were Poel, Sprague, and Ruhlman.

This Friday June 13th will be Nascar Night at I-96 Speedway. The show will feature a full program sanctioned by the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP). Headlining the show are the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds. Joining them will be the UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds, Pro Stocks / Pro Trucks, and UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts. Pit gates will open at 4:30pm, Grandstands will open at 5:30pm, Hot Laps will take place at 6:30pm, and after pre-race ceremonies/Invocation/national anthem(s) racing is set to star at 8:00pm.
