Joey Ancona Racing Turns Tough Tumble on Friday into 11th Place Bid at “Summer Clash” Finale!

Story by Walker Racing Promotions (Collin Markle Photography)
Visalia, CA | September 18, 2015 – Fighting for the points championship while competing in Plaza Park Raceway’s “Summer Clash” just two weeks ago, Joey Ancona knew he had to turn in a clutch performance with the season winding down. Following a rough flip down the backstretch on Friday night, the Concord, California native fought more tough luck with air pressure during Saturday night’s feature as he closed out the weekend with an 11th place run.

Opening the “Summer Clash” with a strong third place qualifying time of 11.668 seconds, Ancona was showing his speed right off the start. Following a second place run in his heat, the young gun was an early favorite in the main event. Quickly moving forward in the 25-lap feature, Ancona was battling hard for the fourth spot on lap eight, when contact between himself and his competitor sent his No. 88 for a wild ride and back to the trailer.

After thrashing all day on Saturday to repair the car with Steve Hamblin, Ancona Motorsports was ready to send the Drcyo Construction, Westbury Ironworks, Factory Kahne No. 88 back on the track. Determined for a successful rebound, Joey came storming out of the gates as he earned quicktime honors with a lightning fast 12.001. He would follow that with another second in heat race action, which would lock him into another feature.

Taking the green flag from seventh, Ancona worked his way into fifth and was set to move onto the podium when a long red flag broke out. Losing air pressure in his right rear during the break, Ancona re-fired with a near flat tire. Doing all he could to salvage a decent finish, Ancona took the checkered flag in the 11th spot.

Moving to within just six markers of the track championship, Ancona will have two final races to make his move for the title. Racing the “Super 600 Nationals” at Plaza Park on September 25th and 26th, Ancona will be striving for his best weekend of the year as he hunts down the crown.

Ancona would like to send a special thanks to Dryco Construction, Inc., Westbury Ironworks, Steve Hamblin, Motion Media, Factory Kahne, and crew member Jeff Tucker for their continued support.
