Amantea Ties Season-Best Result With Third-Place Performance at Selinsgrove

Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (May 23, 2022) – Joey Amantea tied his season-best result on Saturday when he posted a third-place run at Selinsgrove Speedway.
It marked his third straight top five with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Series and was a career-best outing at the track.
“It was an awesome night,” he said. “We already more podiums in a sprint car season than we had last year during the entire year. Everywhere we’ve gone we’ve been fast.”
The weekend was cut in half after an event on Friday at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, Pa., rained out. Amantea kicked off the festivities on Saturday by placing third in a heat race. That advanced him into the feature redraw and he pulled the No. 4 to line up on the outside of the second row in the A Main.
“I started on the pole in the heat race and lost it to Alex (Bright),” he said. “I had a battle with Mark Smith for awhile for second and we ended up third. Come feature-time we changed our setup a bunch. I drove it in harder than we were in the heat, too. We were really fast. The last 10 or 15 laps I felt I was roping in Alex a little. Overall we were super fast and I’m happy with the result.”
Amantea’s third-place outing was his fifth top five of the season at his fourth different track.
Amantea also made his micro sprint season debut last Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa. He placed fifth in a heat race before a DNF ended the night early in the B Main.
“There were a lot of gremlins,” he said. “There were issues all around. It was just a bad night. Hopefully it’s all worked out for this week.”
Amantea plans on returning to Action Track USA this Wednesday followed by USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Series races on Friday at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa., and Saturday at New Egypt Speedway in New Egypt, N.J.
“I’ve never been to New Egypt so I’m excited to see how that goes,” he said. “I’m excited to keep racing a sprint car. Hopefully one of these days we’ll get a win. We’re super close now. It’s leaps and bounds over last year.”
