Ford grabs a pair of runner-up finishes in strong start with Southern Nationals

Jensen Ford returned to the driver’s seat of the Whitehead Construction No. 83 Late Model on Friday afternoon as the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals 12-race tour kicked off at Beckley Motor Speedway (Beckley, W.Va.).

With 32 Late Models on the grounds, Ford secured his spot into the opening night feature with a heat race win over Parker Martin. Chasing Cory Hedgecock to the checkers in the 53-lap affair, Jensen raced to a second-place finish with Zack Mitchell rounding out the podium.

For Saturday’s $10,053-to-win program at Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.), Jensen followed up the second-fastest lap overall with a second-place finish in his heat. Starting the feature in fifth, Ford suffered a suffered a left-front flat tire on the third lap that sidelined him for the remainder of the 53-lapper.

On Sunday afternoon at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.), Jensen started the night off with a heat race victory before placing second in the 53-lap feature. He trailed Dale McDowell to the checkers with Mack McCarter coming in third.
