Garrett Alberson

Garrett Alberson scores fifth-place finish in Tar Heel 53; Fourth at TST

Garrett Alberson raced to back-to-back Top-5 finishes over the weekend behind the wheel of his Ken & Beth Roberts-owned No. 58 Nutrien Ag Solutions / Roemer Machine & Welding / Mesilla Valley Transportation / Black Diamond Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

He started things with a fifth-place run in Castrol FloRacing Night in America action at Tri-County Racetrack on Thursday night, and then added a fourth-place finish in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competition at Talladega Short Track on Saturday night.

“The second half of this year our team has really started to hit its stride, and I’ve gotten much more consistent in the driver’s seat. This past weekend is proof of that. We were in contention for the win early at Tri-County (Racetrack) and faded a little there late but still finished fifth in our first time there. Then, we hit the ground running at Talladega (Short Track) with quick time in our group on Saturday followed by a second in our heat race and fourth in the feature,” Alberson noted. “We’re getting closer and closer to a national tour win, and I’m just so thankful to have such great support.”
On Thursday evening action opened at Ray Cook’s Tri-County Racetrack with a $22,022-to-win Castrol FloRacing Night in America event. In his debut at the bullring, Garrett qualified third fastest in his group before winning his heat race to earn the pole position for the feature. He battled for the lead in the opening laps before ultimately settling into a fifth-place finish behind Dale McDowell, Brandon Overton, Chris Madden, and Cla Knight.

On Saturday night the team resumed action at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) with a $15,000-to-win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) event. Garrett set fast time in his group in qualifications and then finished second in his heat race to lock into the sixth-starting spot for the main event. He went on to advance two positions to finish fourth behind Tim McCreadie, Ricky Thornton Jr., and Dale McDowell.

Garrett is sixth in the latest Castrol FloRacing Night in America standings. He sits seventh in the latest Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series standings and has a commanding lead in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Rookie of the Year battle with the tour. In fact, heading into the final event he has clinched the O’Reilly Auto Parts Rookie award!
