Vandenbergh eighth in opener at Tri-City; captures MLRA Rookie of the Year

With 33 Late Models entered for the doubleheader weekend, Vandenbergh edged his way into the opening night feature with the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Advancing forward six spots in the 30-lap affair, Kolby raced to an eighth-place finish.
On Saturday, Kolby timed in sixth-fastest in his group before placing third in his heat. Starting the $7,000-to-win finale in 11th, Vandenbergh faded one position in the 40-lapper to finish 12th.
Along with finishing second in the final Lucas Oil MLRA point standings, Kolby was crowned the Sunoco Rookie of the Year.
