GOODWIN OVERCOMES STRUGGLES IN DUQUOIN

December 12, 2022 - DuQuoin, Illinois - It's been eight months since Garett has been in the race car which was back in March at the first round of Midwest Winter Nationals in DuQuoin. With the help of our sponsors, the crew loaded up the #83 machine to head south for another round of the two day event.

Right out of the trailer, Garett was experiencing fuel related issues Friday night during practice/qualifying. The team swapped out a few possible parts that they thought could be the issue before the heat race. Unfortunately, the issues were still occurring during the heat race, leaving the GGR crew puzzled on what else could be the issue.

With the results of the heat race, Garett had to run the B-Main to try and make the A-Main. However, due to the fuel issues, Garett decided to not race the B-Main so they could focus on the issue at hand for Saturday night's $3,000 to win race. Discussing the issues with the team's engine builder, Brian Teike, they were narrowing it down to a possible fuel filter/pressure issue. The team rolled the car into the trailer and starting working away. Tearing apart the fuel filter, Garett was able to find that it was plugged with debris. They replaced the filter for the next day to hopefully resolve the issue to have a chance at the big show.

Rolling into Saturday, the team put the finishing touches on the car for hot laps/qualifying. Goodwin was 6th quickest in his group while also confirming the fuel issue were resolved! That gave the confident boost the team needed going into the heat race. Lined up 6th in the heat race with only the top 3 transferring to the A-Main, Garett had some work to do in the short 10 lap race. Green flag dropped in the heat race and Goodwin got shuffled to the back with the outside line moving backwards. He was able to work his way back up to 6th when the checkered flag waved. This lead Garett to getting one last chance to make the show through the 10 lap B-Main.

Starting in the 5th position, Goodwin needed to finish in the top four to make the transfer to the A-Main. The green flag dropped and Garett was on a mission. Within the first few laps, Garett was sitting in the 4th and final transfer spot. That wasn't good enough for Goodwin. He was able to chase down the 3rd place car to gain one more spot into the A-Main before the checkered flag waved. Goodwin was in the show!

The #83 was starting deep in the field of the 35 lap A-Main event in 18th place. After the green flag dropped and a couple cautions occurred, Garett got collected with the car ahead of him on a restart that lead to his right front tire going flat. Goodwin not knowing that he had a flat tire, he kept on trucking forward in the race. While having an ill-handling car, Garett was able to bring home a solid 14th place finish!

"After the struggles we faced all day on Friday, we really needed this finish tonight" said Goodwin, "We had a really fast car all weekend but just couldn't get any luck on our side, but we regrouped and got ourselves in a position to make the show and land us a decent finish!"

We would like to thank all of their partners and fans for their support! We hope to be back to DuQuoin in March for another weekend of racing!
