AXLE TETHER / FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

We value the safety of our drivers, crews, fans, and employees at Skagit Speedway and continue to do our best in making sure that we adhere to the latest safety standards.
We have been working closely with Triple X Race Components to make the following rules as affordable as possible. Starting May 6th 2023, we will require the following new changes for all classes of Sprint Cars.
AXLE TETHERS:
All drivers will be required to have properly installed axle tethers. Skagit Speedway has worked out an agreement with local supplier, Triple X Race Components, to make axle tethers available for $150 to all Skagit Speedway registered drivers/car owners for the 2023 season. Tethers from Triple X Race Components will be available for $150 in March. Please see the approved tethers in the Skagit Speedway Rule Book and on the SkagitSpeedway.com Driver Info page.
FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM:
Fire suppression systems will be required for all Skagit Speedway sprint car series competitors.
All fire suppression systems must meet the SFI 17.3 specification and must be installed and functional on all sprint cars, at all times when competing at Skagit Speedway. Please see the approved systems in the Skagit Speedway Rule Book and on the SkagitSpeedway.com Driver Info page.
In 2023, Skagit Speedway will reimburse each Skagit Speedway registered driver or owner who purchases a certified fire suppression system up to $350. You must provide the receipt of purchase. Upon approved inspection of the Fire Suppression system installed on the registered sprint car, you will be reimbursed up to $350. One reimbursement per registered sprint car.
We will also have a tech inspection area in which each car will pass through before competition starts, each week. Additional details on this will come as we get closer to the season start.

AXLE TETHERS WILL BE MANDATORY ON ALL SPRINT CLASSES
Approved front axle tether systems are mandatory. The tether mounting must meet the SFI 55.1 specifications which includes two (2) Vectran® HS V-12, or Dynemma 12 tethers attached to the chassis. Tether systems must include a “kingpin to kingpin” tether that will attach to the axle clamp/band or pass through the loop of wrap style axle tethers. Tether cables should be installed using the manufacturer's provided fasteners. Tether systems of any type must be pre-approved and installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. “Bolt to bolt” radius rod axle tethers NOT allowed. All axle tether systems must clamp to or wrap around the axle per the manufacturer’s instructions.
FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS REQUIRED

410 – 360 - SPORTSMAN SPRINTS
Fire suppression systems meeting the SFI 17.3 specification will be required beginning May 1st, 2023.
- A fire suppression system that meets the SFI 17.3 specification must be installed and functional in all race cars at all times.
- The fire suppression system must include a thermal trigger and a manual trigger, both mounted in the driver’s compartment. The thermal trigger must be in the lower area of the drivers compartment forward of the seat near the area of the fuel pump. The manual trigger must be mounted within reach of the driver on the forward left-hand side of the cockpit. A minimum of one nozzle must be mounted in the lower area of the cockpit forward of the seat.
- The DOT approved cylinder manufactured of aluminum or steel must be securely mounted to the frame per the manufacturer’s instructions. The cylinder must have a minimum capacity of 5 lbs.
- The system must be fully charged and display a legible and valid SFI 17.3 and manufacture label, easily viewable at any time. Cylinders that are beyond useful certification date must be inspected, serviced, and re-labeled by the manufacturer.
- If a nozzle is connected to the cylinder with a line, the line must be steel or steel reinforced and must be triggered at the end of the line.
