Martin begins World of Outlaws title chase at Volusia Speedway Park
Logan Martin trekked south to Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Thursday afternoon to kick off his pursuit for the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series championship with the fourth annual Sunshine Nationals.
Drawing 47 Late Models for the three-day event, Martin followed up the 22nd-fastest qualifying lap in his time trial group with a 12th-place finish in his heat race, relegating him into the B-Main. Needing to finish third or better to make the $8,000-to-win opener, Parker advanced forward six positions but missed a transfer spot with a 10th-place outing.
Back in action on Friday evening, Logan improved in qualifying with the 16th-fastest time in his group before finishing seventh in his heat. Rolling off seventh in his consolation event for another shot at the feature, Martin improved one position to finish sixth, ending his night early.
An unfavorable forecast for Saturday’s program forced officials to cancel the Sunshine Nationals finale.
