Winger visits Southern Raceway for Battle at the Beach
Friday night found Ashton Winger in action at Southern Raceway (Milton, Fla.) aboard the Jeff Mathews Motorsports No. 12 Late Model for the two-day Battle at the Beach.
Drawing 24 Southern All Star Series entries for the $3,000-to-win opener, Winger’s qualifying effort placed him on the second row for the feature. After crossing the line in first, Ashton weighed in 13 pounds light at the scales, relegating him to the tail of the finishing order.
On Saturday, Ashton topped his 13-car group in time trials before placing first in his heat. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Winger was involved in a tangle with another competitor that led to an early exit.
