Mullens closes out season with Turkey Bowl
Tanner Mullens made his final start of 2023 over the weekend, competing in the 58-car strong Modified class in the Turkey Bowl XVII Larry Phillips Memorial at Springfield (Mo.) Raceway.
On Friday, a pair of heat races was on tap for each competitor. Mullens steered his Sandlian Iron & Metal No. 02 Modified to a runner-up result in his first heat and a fifth-place finish in his second on the quarter-mile track.
The results put Mullens in a Saturday B-Main, where he grabbed the third and final transfer spot into the night's 50-lap, $7,575-to-win main event. However, he hurt the engine along the way, necessitating a change before the big show commenced.
Mullens started 18th in the 50-lapper but was unable to finish, ultimately coming home in the 18th spot.
During his 2023 campaign, Mullens registered 10 wins overall and finished fifth in the Summit United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) National point standings.
