Blight Gets Another Big One!

Although he has only run a limited schedule in Late Models this season, Kye Blight (Kye Blight Racing) has once again shown that despite limited lap time he can run with the best, claiming his second big win in four days!

Tonight saw thirty four Late Models front for the Michael Holmes Racing Hump Day Hustle at the Perth Motorplex, and despite not totally dominating, Blight stood up when it mattered to take victory in the thirty lap feature event.

With teams running qualifying, heat races and dash races, it would be American visitor Myles Moos, coincidentally running the Michael Holmes racing #91 machine, who qualified from pole position after setting a new six lap track record in the A Dash, joined by Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) on the front row of the twenty-four car field.

Moos was quickly off the line as the race went green, using the middle of the track to his advantage while Blight went high, Jamie low and Jamie emerging on top for second.

Behind them Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) and Brad Blake went side by side for fourth, each taking turns with the nose in front.

Moos, Oldfield and Blight locked themselves onto the high line, Moos in particular building his gap back to Jamie and Blight, Jamie eventually going too high in turn one on lap six, giving Blight the opportunity he needed to get past.

By this time Moos was well ahead and had begun to fight his way through traffic, while Chalmers on the low line and Blake on the high line were still fighting tooth and nail for fourth.

With ten to go Chalmers had had a moment coming out of turn four which allowed Ben Nicastri (@Ben Nicastri Racing) to race by into the top five.
Moos found himself in a bit of clear air with twelve complete, while firstly Blight and then Oldfield joined him, the three running in the same corner but not close enough to make a move.

Blight set about closing the gap and by lap fifteen was right on the tail of Moos.
Moos went high, Blight low, and Blight got the nose in front coming out of turn two, the duo then splitting through lapped traffic and Moos able to keep the nose in front.

Jamie closed the gap in this time and when Moos went high in turn three and sent sparks showering, it was enough for Blight to draw alongside him and take the lead over the line by 0.003 seconds, with Jamie also looking for a move.

Unfortunately the yellows came on with that lap complete as Nicastri spun to a stop in turn two after a lapped car had a moment in front of him, his race now over.

The restart order would see Blight leading away Moos, Oldfield, Blake, and Chalmers, with Jamie diving low and looking for the lead before the yellows came on once again, this time for Luke Halliday (Halliday Racing) who found himself stuck in the turn two wall.

With thirteen to go the field bunched up once more, going single file this time and this time Moos dove under Blight but was unable to make the move stick.

Just as the race got back into a rhythm Nathan Richards spun down the back straight, lining the field up once again, now with eleven laps to go.

Jamie got the best of the restart getting by Moos ducking under Blight and taking the lead, but Blight dove back under while Moos went high and lost a bunch of spots, Blight now leading Jamie, Blake, Chalmers and Moos.

Chalmers got past Blake, and Blake went to get back past Chalmers but was forced to hit the brakes, Moos going into the back of Blake before diving past to take fourth.

The yellows came on again with seven laps remaining as Jacob Croker and Cameron Pearson came together in turn two.

Again the field lined up for a restart, Blight leading away Oldfield, Chalmers, Moos and Blake.

Jamie stuck right with Blight on the restart, Moos going high to draw alongside Chalmers for third and taking the position with five to go.

Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) then arrived on the scene and was able to get past Blake for fifth, but from here the order remained unchanged, the top five spreading out and Blight claiming the win from Jamie Oldfield, Myles Moos, Joe Chalmers and Warren Oldfield.

Teams now have just under forty eight hours to be ready to race once again, the first night of the two night Late Model Nationals getting underway back at the Perth Motorplex on Friday.
