Midwest Legends Dirt Series

Track ID: Hawkeye Downs Speedway

With the 2nd Midwest Legends Dirt Series season right around the corner, we want to spotlight the tracks we will be visiting throughout the season. Some tracks will be familiar to fans of the MLDS while some tracks will be completely new. Let’s jump in and learn about some fantastic facilities!!

The track that was marked as the wildcard for the 2025 MLDS season, Hawkeye Downs Speedway makes its first appearance on the MLDS schedule in the series history.

Now you may be scratching your head wondering, wow Zack, I thought Hawkeye Downs Speedway was a paved track. And to that I would say yes, yes it is, but not for this event. The track will be putting dirt down starting in September for an exciting few months of racing.

The track initially started out as dirt back in 1925 and was converted to asphalt years later. The track celebrating its 100th season houses a half mile and quarter mile track that hosts weekly racing on Friday nights with Hornets, Hobby Stocks, Late Models, Sportsman, and Legends. The track is a NASCAR Weekly Series facility and hosts series such as Mid-Am, Big 8 Late Models, and the Midwest Truck Series.

While the track has not been dirt for a while, some weekly drivers are expected to try out the dirt. Kasey Korsmo picked up the 2024 track championship in the Legends class and has already made an appearance or two with the MLDS last year, expect to see him.

The track will host a singular, non-points night in September. The 27th will see the Legends hit the track along with IMCA Modifieds, Sport Mods, Stock Cars, and Hobby Stocks.
