Davis Takes His First MARA Feature of the Season in Lincoln Speedway Go

(June 7, Lincoln, IL)

A quick car and strong restarts powered Mitchell Davis to his first Midget Auto Racing Association feature win of the year. Dominic Bruns took to the lead at the drop of the green for the 20 lap event. The teenager pulled away as a three car battle between Daltyn England, Davis and Jace Sparks ensued behind him.

Davis broke away from the others and by the third circuit found himself in the lead. It was a very different track from the previous week as cars were running the berm, which was in the middle of each corner. The previous week it was a “low as you could go” track. The one similarity between the weeks was the turn-one rut just a touch above the lowest line.

By the half-way point of the 20 lap event Davis was ahead by half a track over England. Shortly thereafter England slowed, but found a spot to exit the track without causing a caution. The Davis lead was erased a couple of laps later anyway when Bruns spun.

The restart saw Davis leading Sparks, Adam Taylor and Mario Clouser. Davis pulled away when the green flew. Clouser tried to make a charge in turn-one only to be jacked around by that pesky low-groove bump. In another lap the yellow was out again, this time for a three car pileup in turn-one.

All of the cars refired and when racing resumed it was more of the same for Davis and his Jim Mahan-owned, MWR EcoTech. Just when it looked like he had the race in hand, the red flag came out for a Mark McMahill tip over. McMahill was uninjured and looked like he could have restarted if rules allowed, but he was done for the night.

The ensuing green, white, checkers restart saw Davis pull away again, but Taylor caught him coming out of turn-four and as they crossed the line to run the last lap Davis and Taylor were side by side. Davis had the high line and Taylor’s slide-job in turn-one was upset by the famed bump, upsetting his car just enough. Davis went on to finish the lap and take the AgVenture/ Wehmeyer Seed A-Main by three lengths over Taylor.

HEATS AND AWARDS

Rod End Supply Qualifying Fast Time and Horizon Develop Build Manage Invert Draw went to McMahill.

In Fusion Engineering Heat-One Taylor took the lead just before the completion of lap-five to easily take the win. The teenager Dominic Bruns had an impressive run. Bruns bolted to the lead at the drop of the green and held off the Indiana veteran for the first half of the race. Bruns looked smooth and confident in his black #12. Bruns held off another vet, Mario Clouser, to finish second.

In Horizon Carpentry Heat-Two England held off a charging Davis at the line to take the win.

High Performance Lubricants Hard Charger honors went to Tyler Roth who gained six spots to finish fifth.

The Schoenfeld Headers Heat-Three and Hoosier Racing Tires B-Main were not needed this evening.

UP NEXT

Saturday, June 7, was supposed to be the second MARA race for the weekend, this time at Coles County Speedway but teams knew on Friday already that that race was cancelled due to wet grounds and more bad weather expected.

Next Friday, June 13, MARA is back in action, this time at Jacksonville Speedway where they will share the card with the IRA Sprint Cars. This will be the last race before a nearly three week break to allow teams to refresh, after an early season full of doubleheaders.
