Schmuhl Sweeps Heavenly Weekend with Win at Angell Park

Sun Prairie, WI (June 23rd, 2025) - A perfect weekend for the #59S team was capped off at Angell Park Speedway as Hayden Schmuhl picked up the win with the Midwest Legends Dirt Series. A national qualifier event win also meant Schmuhl swept the weekend with two-wins.

A twenty-five-car field was headlined by a heap of local drivers. 2024 MLDS Champion Jackson Lewis returned for a run at the win, with 2024 Benton County Speedway Champion Cohen Henze also in attendance. Another driver who made the trip was Freeport, Illinois Jeff Schmidt, just over an hour and a half drive for him.

Fall River Foundry Qualifying was up first with Adam Zellmer taking another quick time. A time of 18.493 was almost two-tenths faster than Dallas Ross’ 18.612 in second. Schmuhl was third with an 18.656, with Lewis putting in an 18.807 before rolling his car. Talyn Neuman once again showed up in the top five, this time in fifth, with an 18.819.

Three N&S Towing Heat Races were up. Heat one saw Lewis pick up the win but be DQ’d post-race due to an on-track incident during the race. That meant Payton Jones was awarded the win while Zellmer and Cal Swenson took second and third.

It was all Neuman in heat two, with the Beaver Dam native taking the lead on lap four and never looking back. Ryan Mech was able to hold the second spot while Ross had to battle to end the heat in third.

The final heat of the night was taken by Schmuhl, with a commanding win, a sight that would be a trend with him on the night. Schmidt took home the second-place spot while Rob Maule had to deal with a constant attack from Henze for the third spot but beating him in the end.

The twenty-lap feature wrapped up the night. After a redraw, Mech and Faith Zellmer-Schultz lined up on the front row. Faith got the jump on the start and led for the early few laps before Schmidt worked his way around her. Schmuhl went from his tenth starting spot to the lead within the first five laps, taking the spot over from Schmidt and locking in to run away. Eyes turned to the #117 of Adam Zellmer, who slowly started maneuvering his way through the field. He would make it up to fifth and had to enter the battle for the top spots with Schmidt, Neuman, Lilly Fassbender, Mech, Swenson, and Henze all jostling for the spots. Schmidt and Zellmer managed to break away and battle for the second spot for the remaining laps while Schmuhl continued to grow his gap. Neuman managed to catch the back of them but not in time.

Meanwhile upfront, Schmuhl was very much checked out, picking up his second win of the weekend and third win overall, an astonishing nine-seconds over second-place Schmidt, third-place Zellmer, and fourth-place Neuman. Fifth went to Fassbender but credit needs to be given to the spots sixth through eleventh. Those drivers all finished within a second and a half of each other, some of the closest racing the MLDS has seen.

It was Schmuhl who got prizes from Rush Race Gear and Aero Race Wheels for the win as well as picking up the Professional Plating and Rush Racegear hard charger award after surging from tenth. Tim Franz was awarded a gift from HMS Motorsport after his finishing position of sixteenth was drawn by Daxton.
