National Midgets Look to FALS and Angell Park

Belleville, IL – After a disappointing rainout from strong storms at Lincoln Speedway, the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League shifts focus to coming weekend at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois on Saturday and a trip to the historic Angell Park Speedway on Sunday.

Saturday’s outing at FALS will be the National Midget’s solo appearance at the action-packed quarter mile in 2018. Sunday’s 37th Annual Pepsi Nationals at Angell Park Speedway will be one of two appearances for the National Midgets at the historic oval.

Saturday’s visit to FALS marks the third time that the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget League has visited the action-packed oval. In 2017, FALS hosted the second night of POWRi Illinois SPEED Week, which saw Tanner Thorson take the show in a last lap thriller over Rico Abreu and Michael Pickens. The inaugural appearance in 2016 saw Zach Daum victorious for his 15th career win with the league.

POWRi’s FALS showing will be recorded and tape-delayed for a MAVTV broadcast, airing at a later date. MAVTV is available nationwide. Check your local listings for MAVTV channel numbers.

Sunday’s visit to Angell Park Speedway marks the 37th Annual Pepsi Nationals at the historic oval. One of midget racing’s crown jewels, the historic 1/3rd mile will draw some of the sport’s biggest names for competition. In 2017, fans saw Zach Daum back in victory lane over Ryan Robinson and Tanner Thorson, breaking his dry-spell up to that point in the season.

The 37th Annual Pepsi Nationals will pay $3,000 to win, $300 to start for the 30-lap main event, with $100 to non-qualifiers. Complete payout can be found under the rules tab at the top of the POWRi website. At the conclusion of the 37th Annual Pepsi Nationals, everyone in attendance will be treated to the famous Angell Park fireworks show sponsored by Budweiser.
