Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (June 14, 2017) – Zach Blurton recorded a pair of top-five finishes during the past five days, giving him a tremendous boost of confidence heading into a big weekend of racing.

“It was a hell of a week,” he said. “Everything just went our way for a change.”
It started last Saturday at Eagle Raceway, where Blurton rolled off fifth in his heat race.

“I got to third right away, which is where I needed to finish to make the inversion for the feature,” he said. “But I didn’t get the right rear out enough and got passed and finished fourth. That put us starting 15th in the feature rather than in the top three rows.”

In the A Main Blurton used past experience at the high-banked track to drive forward from the drop of the green flag.

“I used the same setup, but just changed the right front shock,” he said. “In the first lap I was up to 10th running the bottom while everyone else was buzzing the top. I just kept passing cars and got to sixth when the caution came out to set up a green-white-checkered finish. While I was cruising around under yellow I checked out the middle groove because a few weeks ago I tried the middle and it worked. I had three lapped cars separating me from fifth. I went to the middle of turns one and two on the restart and got around the lapped cars and got by fifth and fourth before the checkers.”

Blurton finished fourth to build momentum as he returned to Eagle Raceway on Tuesday, when the Sprint Series of Nebraska was the undercard to the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series during the Eagle Nationals. Another good pill draw started Blurton fourth in his heat race. He finished second, putting him in the redraw to start in the top 10 of the A Main.

“I was the next-to-last person to draw and all that was left was a three and a 10,” he said. “The way I’ve drawn lately I thought I’d get the 10, but surprised myself with the three.”

As the green flag waved Blurton fell to fifth.

“I just couldn’t get a good line going right away,” he said. “Then I got rolling in the middle of turns one and two and the top of turns three and four and got to third in a few laps and then took second. I needed another yellow to have a shot at Jack Dover. But finishing second to him … he’s like a God at Eagle … is nothing to be ashamed of.”

In addition to the momentum from the great finishes over the last two races, Blurton is dropping in a new engine for this weekend at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., for the Lewis Automotive DCRP Sprint Car Nationals on Friday and Saturday.

“They are paying $3,000 to win these races,” he said. “I have a lot of confidence heading into this. I finished second there the last time we ran at Dodge City.”

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Adam and Andrea Gullion of Lincoln, Neb.

“The weekend started with just me and my wife,” Blurton said. “Adam and Andrea are racing friends and they hooked us up with one of their friends, Branden, who worked his tail off on the car. We meshed really well and he was a tremendous help. We can’t thank Adam and Andrea enough for opening their home to us. Otherwise we would have had to stay in the toter and work on the car outside. Thanks to them we had a nice place to stay and an air conditioned shop to work on the car. Ally and I appreciate their hospitality more than they know. It took a tremendous amount of stress off of us.”
