The Sport of Quarter Midget Racing

Quarter Midgets of America is a non-profit organization that involves families from all over the continental United States, including Canada. With the large amount of quarter midget clubs across the U.S. and Canada, the Quarter Midgets of America created 13 different regions throughout this vast area. Quarter Midget Racing is certainly one of the "best kept secrets" a family or motorsports enthusiast could come across.

The Quarter Midgets of America is a family oriented sport that involves racing with specially prepared, very safe race cars. The cars, called a "Quarter Midget", follow rules and safety procedures that are designed specifically for kids. Quarter Midgets race on oval tracks approximately 1/20 of a mile and can be on surfaces of concrete, asphalt, or dirt.
Children ages 5-16 can participate in these great family motorsports events. Quarter midget racing has fewer injuries than little-league football, so don't let the thought of a 'race car' affect your decision.

Safety features include full roll cages, multi-point seat harnesses, full face helmets, and other gear. The Quarter Midget Association is constantly reviewing and evaluating safety rules to ensure that quarter midget racing remains a safe, yet competitive sport. The racing environment is about children and family - not only do the kids learn valuable skills and sportsmanship, but they also make new friends - Friends they may keep their entire lives. Don't worry, Mom and Dad, not only will this be some of the best times of your child's life, it will also probably be the best times of yours!

What is a Quarter Midget?

A Quarter Midget car is a scaled-down version of an actual midget racer, approximately 1/4 scale. The cars are built around a tubular frame and are fully suspended with springs or torsion bars and shocks. The bodies are fiberglass, usually painted to the drivers preference. Surrounding the driver is a chrome-moly roll cage and nerf bars. The engines are single cylinder and are manufactured by Honda, Continental, Briggs & Stratton, and Deco. In the motors stock configuration they produce between 2.5 & 4 horse power. Modifications in the upper classes allow these engines to reach several times the stock horse power. These air-cooled 4-cycle engines are reliable and can produce as much as 10,000 rpm's in their more highly modified forms.
