Lawrence’s Luck Runs Out During Attempt at Last-Lap Pass for Win

Inside Line Promotions – BELLS, Texas (Sept. 18, 2019) – Zane Lawrence went for gold on Saturday with a last-lap slide job, but misfortune struck during the Texas Sprint Series show at Grayson County Speedway.

Lawrence, who was driving for Bob Odom, kicked off the night by winning his heat race after lining up fifth. He started the feature from the outside of the fourth row.

“I’ve always been fast at this track and been in contention to win, but just haven’t been able to pull it off yet,” he said. “We had a good car in the heat and knew we would for the feature as well even though we were starting mid-pack.”

Lawrence made his way toward the front of the field quickly and battled for the lead on several occasions. Cautions played a factor each time Lawrence took the lead and it reverted the running order to the previous lap. An intense battle took place during the final six laps of the feature between Lawrence and two other competitors. Lawrence tried to pull a slide job on the last lap, but he was unable to complete the pass and spun. That relegated him to an 11th-place finish.

“We were so close to finally getting a win in Bob’s car,” he said. “I wish we would have been able to pull that one off.”

Lawrence’s next race will be this Saturday at Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, with the Texas Sprint Series.
