Setters Garners Third Straight Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series Championship

Inside Line Promotions – GREAT FALLS, Mont. (Sept. 9, 2021) – James Setters sacrificed a win for the championship on Aug. 28 during the Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series season finale.

Setters was going for another clean sweep at Electric City Speedway, where he won a heat race and was leading the A Main in the Mike Quigley owned No. 2 sprint car.

“We had really long yellows so we weren’t sure we were going to make it on fuel,” he said. “We had a red flag with about four laps remaining and my dad said the choice was mine. With all the red and yellows we had during the feature I decided to pull off to make sure we made weight.”

The only potential way Setters wasn’t going to win his third straight series championship was if he would get disqualified because of being underweight.

“It wasn’t that hard of a decision because we’re racing for championships,” he said. “Of course we want to win every race, but our goal is to win championships.”

The team pulled into the work area, added fuel and repaired the wing slider during the red flag. Setters returned to the track and hustled to a runner-up result in the closing laps.

“It’s definitely awesome to get another championship for Mike’s team and to keep this thing rolling,” he said. “Hopefully we can add another one next year.”

Setters plans to wrap up the 2021 season in his family car this Friday at Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont., and Saturday at Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont., with the ASCS Frontier Region.

“I can’t wait,” he said. “I really like racing in Billings. I’d like to finish the season out with a win, but as long as we can pull the car in with no wrecks that’s a win for us.”
