Jerry "Mahoney" Gronewold Hobby Special
You don't want to miss this special night!!! The Jerry "Mahoney" Gronewold Hobby Special is taking great shape, with a terrific number of hobby stock cars showing interest in this event. Jerry was a tremendous driver for many years at the speedway, so we are very pleased to host this event this year. Most people in surrounding area knew Mahoney as the driver of the 58 racecar. From hobby stock to stock car and even a B Mod and sprint car. There wasn’t a car he couldn’t win with. He took great pride in his many years of racing and cars that he built with his own hands. He had many track championships, numerous feature wins, and was inducted in the Murray County Speedway Hall of Fame in 2011.
Tonight's race sponsor is Miller Sellner of Slayton, a great sponsor of the speedway for many years.
For the hobby special, transponders will be required. The track has transponders to rent out for $25. This will be an IMCA event for State, Regional and National points, but not for track points. An IMCA license is required and must be shown at the back gate for sign-in. First place money is $1250 up to 20 cars, $1500 up to 26 cars and $2000 for over 27 cars.
If you are coming to the track for the first time, we do have reserved pit stalls, the white signs mark the reserved spots, where these are closest to the track. Further out in the pits are where the open stalls are, we will have someone to help get you into a parking spot.
We are also hearing from quite a few cars in other classes, that are looking to race, as several other tracks are taking the night off. So it sounds like you may not want to miss this event. Grandstands open at 6pm. Adult ticket prices are $12, students age 9-16 are $8 and kids 8 and under are Free.
