Hoffman sweeps Summit Modified Nationals opening week

Nick Hoffman recorded a dominating victory in the opening round of the 2021 Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals. With 30 entries in action, Hoffman won his heat race to earn the pole position for the 25-lap finale.

Leading flag-to-flag, Hoffman recorded his 12th win of the season and his 39th-career Modified Nationals triumph. Tyler Nicely, Steven Brooks, Jacoby Hines, and John Demoss completed the Top-5 finishers.

Wednesday night took the team to Peoria Speedway (Peoria, Ill.) for the second round of the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals, where Hoffman made a clean sweep of the night. He set fast time in qualifications, won his heat race, and then led all 25 laps from the pole position to claim his 40th-career series win.

“I was trying to pick the smoothest line down this front straightaway, just didn’t want anything to happen. Hats off to the track prep crew, it was probably the best I’ve ever seen this place,” Hoffman said. “Dave [Wietholder] – he’s one of my customers – he’s been on a tear up here, so for him to run second, that’s pretty cool.”

Following Hoffman across the finish line was Dave Wietholder, Ray Bollinger, Allen Weisser, and Tyler Nicely.

Nick kept the train rolling on Thursday night with his third Summit Modified Nationals win in as many nights with a triumph at Kankakee (Ill.) County Speedway. Twenty-six drivers were in action, and Nick won his heat race before drawing the pole for the feature. He went on to pace all 25 laps to pick up his 14th win of the year. Curt Spalding, Nick Allen, Tyler Nicely, and Levi Kissinger completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Friday night Hoffman stormed to his fourth-straight win with the miniseries. Nick won his heat race and then once again led every lap of the feature to pick up the victory, which marked his 15th of the 2021 campaign, and his 42nd-career Summit Equipment Modified Nationals victory.

On Saturday night the famed Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) hosted the series, and it was more of the same for Hoffman. After earning the pole position via preliminary action for the 39-car field, Hoffman paced all 30 laps of the feature to record the $2,000 victory. Curt Spalding, Nick Allen, Tommy Sheppard Jr., and Allen Weisser completed the Top-5 finishers.

“I had a memory pop up on my Facebook today of two years ago [during] Summer Nationals, and it was a quote that I was off to a rough start to Summer Nationals, and man, this is the total opposite,” Hoffman said in Victory Lane. “I couldn’t be more proud of what our team accomplished this week. Five wins in five nights against this competition is pretty awesome.”

Sunday night’s event at Indiana’s Plymouth Speedway fell victim to rain.
