Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2019) – Sides Motorsports is seeking its first World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series triumph since April 2016.

There have been several close calls since then and last Friday was another great opportunity as Tim Kaeding led the first 16 laps of the 30-lap main event during the opening night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway.

Kaeding qualified third quickest before he won both a heat race and the dash to garner the pole position for the main event. He paced the field for the first half of the race before a minor miscue allowed eventual winner Brad Sweet by on Lap 17.

“There were a lot of big ruts,” said team owner Jason Sides, who noted his performance during the weekend was more focused on not tearing up his equipment. “TK had a good lead and hit one rut coming off turn two. That got him off the back straightaway and that’s when Brad got by. For the most part it was a great race. I’m an optimistic. We want to win when you’re that close, but a top five, a top three is great, especially when you’re racing with all those guys.”

Kaeding finished in the runner-up position, which was the team’s best outing of the season.

Kaeding produced another good showing on Saturday, timing in 12th quickest in qualifying and placing third in a heat race to line up ninth for the main event.

“At one point he got up to third or fourth in the feature,” Sides said. “There at the end he got shuffled back a little bit with some of the corn row ruts. The inside wasn’t as good at the beginning of the race, but toward the end of the race it was better. Sometimes it was just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Kaeding hustled to a sixth-place outing, which marked the team’s 16th top 10 of the season.

Sides scored his best result of last week on Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., where he capped the night with a 14th-place finish.

This week marks the final three scheduled races of the season with Kaeding in a Sides Motorsports entry. Both Kaeding and Sides will race on Wednesday at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, Calif., during the 49er Gold Rush Classic presented by Riebes NAPA Auto Parts; on Friday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., during the NOS Energy Drink Showdown at Stockton; and on Saturday at Calistoga Speedway in Calistoga, Calif., during the Wine Country Outlaw Showdown.

“I think he’ll have a good shot at winning it at Placerville,” Sides said. “He won at Stockton a couple of weeks ago and I look forward to going to Calistoga because I’ve been better on bigger tracks. I hope to have a good run there.”
