Bruce Jr. Earns Fourth-Place Finish at Nebraska Cup, Seventh Straight Top Seven

Inside Line Promotions – EAGLE, Neb. (Sept. 9, 2013) – Tony Bruce Jr.’s consistency continued on Sunday at Eagle Raceway, where he picked up his seventh straight top-seven result.

Bruce Jr. opened the ASCS Midwest Region’s Nebraska Cup by charging from third to claim his heat race, marking his 10th heat win of the season.

“We were able to get up there and battle for the lead,” he said. “I made a pass for the lead with a couple laps to go and that set us up good to put us in the redraw.”

After advancing to second place on the opening lap of his heat race, Bruce Jr. took the lead for good in the final couple of laps to secure his fourth heat win in the last five races.

“It was racy from the word go,” he said. “I think that’s why everybody loves that place. If you don’t win there the only person to blame is yourself. The track is always able to pass on.”

Bruce Jr. pulled the No. 2 in the feature redraw to start the 30-lap main event on the outside of the front row.

“On the start I got squeezed up into the fence down the front straightaway,” he said. “I had a bad start and fell back to fourth and pretty much rode around in fourth the whole race. When we got into lapped traffic we were pretty good.

“We had a late race caution at the end. Those guys in front of me were throwing dirty sliders for the win. I was hoping they would take each other out so I could drive up there for the win. We weren’t that far off.”

Bruce Jr. held on for a fourth-place result, which was his 19th top five of the season.

“It was one of those nights where you’ve got to take your fourth-place finish,” he said.

Bruce Jr. is taking this weekend off before returning to Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.
