Wampler Rebounds to Post Fourth Straight Top Five at Lawton

Inside Line Promotions – LAWTON, Okla. (Aug. 26, 2015) – Cody Wampler registered his fourth straight top-five finish last Saturday at Lawton Speedway.
“We fought for a top five,” he said. “It was kind of a crazy night. For what transpired we were happy to get back to fifth.”
The night began with Wampler and the Randall Buzbee team advancing from sixth to third place during a heat race.
“The track was pretty locked down,” he said. “We got into third coming out of turn two on the opening lap and pretty much stayed there.”
That lined Wampler up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.
“We missed the setup,” he said. “The previous week we were really good. We went a little further with it to see what we could get as far as tightening it up. The track was slick, but it was really rough and had a couple of big ruts.”
Wampler remained around his starting position for the first third of the race.
“We just didn’t get anything going,” he said. “We were bouncing and jumping the cushion. Me and another car got together coming out of turn four. His right front got in my left rear. I thought I was going to turn it over. It knocked the left rear down and knocked the tire off the bead.”
Wampler’s team changed the tire in the work area and he restarted at the back of the pack.
“We came back out there and just fought tooth and nail for every spot because the car wasn’t that great,” he said. “We escaped a couple of other close calls. We wound up getting up to fifth on the last lap.”
Wampler will return to competition this Saturday at Lawton Speedway.
