Red Bull Global Rallycross Racer Steve Arpin Thrilled Following Late Model Debut at Billings Motorsports Park

Inside Line Promotions – BILLINGS, Mont. (July 18, 2016) – Red Bull Global Rallycross star Steve Arpin is singing the praises of Billings Motorsports Park following his debut at the 3/8-mile dirt track last Saturday.

“I can’t wait to get back,” he said. “It was so much fun. That race track, the crowd, how efficiently they run the show, everything about it was top notch. It was a pleasure to get there, have fun, enjoy myself and race on a well-maintained race track.”

Arpin, whose is in the hunt for the Red Bull Global Rallycross championship as a driver for Loenbro Chip Ganassi Racing, piloted a late model for Chris Dunn during an off weekend from his busy schedule.

“It was an absolute blast,” Arpin said. “We got there and I saw the race track and the rain looming around us. I was nervous if we’d get hit or not. Luckily it missed us. They literally had a perfect track for us to race on.”

Arpin quickly advanced from third place to win a heat race to open the night.

“Chris Dunn had an awesome car for me to drive,” he said. “I have a lot of laps in dirt cars, just not much in a late model. Billings was my fourth time racing one. When you’re in a car that good it accelerates the learning curve.”

Following some track work Arpin lined up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“They took a shot at it and farmed the whole track and made a perfect track for us to race on in the main event,” he said. “It was so cool.

“We went backward at the start. It took me a while to figure out what I needed to do. I dropped back to 10th and made it back up to second. We ran literally everywhere from the very inside against the tires to hanging my right rear off the top of the track. The line was anywhere you could find on the race track.”

Arpin closed in on leader Kelly Hample in the final laps.

“We went around turns one and two the last two laps side by side,” Arpin said. “We both had to be at the top in turns three and four. We were side by side coming out of turn two on the last lap so I tried going to the bottom and he had way too much momentum for me to finish the pass. I think if I could have raced him one or two more laps we could have tried a slide job.”

Arpin’s runner-up result has him excited to return to Billings Motorsports Park whenever the next opportunity is available.

“We’re in a pretty intense battle for the points lead in the Red Bull Global Rallycross deal,” he said. “I’m getting back to the grind and focusing on that. We talked about the possibility of it, but nothing is concrete yet. If I could go back to a dirt track right away I’d go back to Billings in a heartbeat.”

Arpin’s next Red Bull Global Rallycross event is July 29-30 in Washington, D.C.

Billings Motorsports Park will return to action this Saturday when modifieds, midwest modifieds and super stocks are on the card.
