Peck Flashes To Second-Place Finish In Irwin Machine

MONTPELIER, Ind. – Originally scheduled for an off weekend in his family’s No. 5x midget, Justin Peck got the call Wednesday to pilot Kenneth and Reva Irwin’s No. 7k entry at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway on Saturday night. And answer the call he did, racing his way to a runner-up finish at the northeast Indiana oval.
With 24 midget entries in the pit area, there were just enough participants for a full field. Peck would be starting from the rear of his heat race, in seventh, and hustled forward four positions to earn a third-place finish while battling through a slight engine issue.
Peck would again start seventh in the main event, and quickly set out toward the front. Finding the high side to his liking, Peck put the Esslinger-powered Stealth Chassis atop the quarter-mile and rallied forward. In just ten short laps, the 17-year-old Monrovia, Ind. native was making his move into the top spot. However, engine issues returned as the laps wore on, and long-time opponent Gage Walker snuck by as the white flag flew, leaving Peck to finish in second place.
Peck would like to thank Dura Coat Products, Stanton Racing Engines, Factory Kahne, DRC Chassis, Simpson Race Products, Lucas Oil, Keizer Wheels, Hoosier Racing Tire, Saldana Racing Products, Thomas Railroad Construction, Pit Stop BBQ & Grill, Kwik Change Products, and Spider Graphix, as well as his parents, crew, and all of his fans for their continued support. Peck would also like to thank the Irwins for allowing him to compete in their car for the weekend.
Peck is next scheduled to compete on April 22 at Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway and on April 23 at Macon (Ill.) Speedway, both with the POWRi National Midget Series in the No. 5X midget entry.
