Trenca Charges From 16th to Fifth During Earl Halaquist Memorial

Inside Line Promotions – AFTON, N.Y. (Aug. 24, 2016) – Joe Trenca charged to his third top-five finish of the season on Tuesday during the Mach 1 Chassis Earl Halaquist Memorial at I-88 Speedway.

The Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints event began with the Mucci Motorsports driver advancing from fifth to fourth place in a heat race.

“In the heat we were good, but got behind on the start,” he said. “Guys got bunched together and we fell to seventh in turn two. We made it back to fifth and I slid a guy for fourth. I was catching third, but ran out of laps.”

Trenca placed fourth to miss locking into the feature redraw by only one spot. That lined him up third in the dash.

“I’m glad we had the dash to experiment,” he said. “We tried something with the setup and it was terrible.”

Trenca finished fourth to lock into the 16th starting position for the main event.

“It was a bit of a wreck-fest early, but all the wrecks were in the back,” he said. “We only gained two positions from crashes. The bottom started coming in down in turn four. I found it early and that’s when I made a lot of passes. No one was running the top in turn one and the bottom in turn four. We had a clear path to run our line. At the checkered flag we were side by side with the guy for fourth.”

Trenca maneuvered from 16th to a fifth-place result.

He is slated to take this weekend off before competing Sept. 2 at Brewerton Speedway in Brewerton, N.Y., and Sept. 3 at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y., with the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints.
