Price Gains Valuable Experience on the Road in 2018

Inside Line Promotions – COBBLE HILL, B.C., Canada (Dec. 3, 2018) – Robbie Price expanded his horizons in 2018, hitting the road quite a bit this season as he continued to progress behind the wheel of a sprint car.
Price started the season with BDS Motorsports on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com series. He competed in nearly the first dozen ASCS races on the schedule, picking up a couple of ninth-place finishes at The Dirt Track at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. During that stint, Price garnered a podium finish at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., with the Upper Midwest Sprint Series. He visited nearly a dozen new tracks during that stretch, including making a trip to Central Pennsylvania and competing at the famed Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg.
“The beginning of the year was a lot of fun,” he said. “I like traveling around and racing at new tracks and getting to race as much as I did. I got a lot of races in during the first two months of the season. It was really good. I wish I could have stayed out there longer, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes. I had a pretty good year. It wasn’t my best year, but it definitely wasn’t my worst. We had good speed at times. Hopefully we can build on it for next year.”
Price returned to the Pacific Northwest in the middle of June and climbed back aboard his family owned No. 21P. He was fast right out of the box, finishing third in the opener of the famed Dirt Cup at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash.
“I was definitely on my ‘A’ game when I came back home later in the season and raced on the West Coast and being on the road played a big part in that,” he shared. “We ran good the first night of the Dirt Cup and some other shows around here. There were a few driver mistakes and some bad circumstances, but other than that we were pretty good when we came back here to race.”
The native of Cobble Hill, B.C., also returned to his roots of racing a mini sprint on a handful of occasions and he picked up a pair of victories. Those wins came within a three-week span at Deming Speedway in Deming, Wash.
“The mini sprint is always fun to drive,” he said. “I wish I could drive the sprint car like I drive the mini sprint. It’s something different when we get to race the mini sprint. Mainly, I just get to show up, drive and have fun. It’s even more enjoyable when you are fast like we were.”
In the fall, Price competed in the majority of the events during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series West Coast swing. He finished 13th at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., on Labor Day evening, marking the best finish of his career with the Outlaws. He also qualified for the main event on the final night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., for the first time in his career.
“We had decent speed the whole Outlaws swing on the West Coast,” he noted. “To cap it off with making the A Main at the Gold Cup, which is no easy feat, was great. It was just me and a couple of my buddies out there helping me. To be able to get in the show meant a lot to all of us. It was a cool experience all around.”
Late in the season, Price teamed up with Casey Minks to compete in the Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. The pair also headed west to finish the season at the Copper Classic hosted by Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., with the ASCS Southwest Region.
“The Short Track Nationals was a great experience,” Price said. “We just needed to get the program a little bit better off. If we had things like we did in Arizona at the end of the year we would have had a lot better results at the Short Track Nationals. It was a growing deal as Casey hadn’t raced in a while. Hopefully, I’ll get to race down there again.”
Price is already looking ahead to 2019 and hopes to hit the road again, but this time in his own car. The plan ultimately hinges on sponsorship.
