Dills Scores Fifth Straight Top Five and Seventh Top Five of Season at Cottage Grove

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Aug. 1, 2016) – Patrick Dills registered his fifth straight top-five finish during Extreme Sprints competition at Cottage Grove Speedway last Saturday.
“Consistency is one of the most important things,” he said. “You can win a championship and never win a race if you’re consistent. I feel like that’s one of our strong points.”
Dills opened the night by setting quick time during qualifying.
“I went out sixth to qualify,” he said. “The top of turn four was so dry people were hanging off the top. The first lap I went to the top and had to get out of the gas. On my second lap I came around and hit the top of turn three and rolled down the track and came off the bottom of turn four and that was quickest.”
Dills then advanced from fourth to third place in the dash before ending fourth in a heat race. The feature inversion lined him up seventh.
“On the start of the main event I fell back to eighth or ninth and then I found something through the middle,” he said. “I started working that middle groove. There were a couple of yellows and I was able to get a couple of cars through the middle. Then I could smell the rubber and found it first in the middle. I passed a couple of cars to get to fourth and then everyone else found it.”
Dills scored a fourth-place finish, which was his seventh top five in nine Extreme Sprints races this season.
He is slated to return to Cottage Grove Speedway this Saturday.
