Kenny Miller Victorious In IMCA Modified Action

Banks, Oregon- Sunset Speedway Park opened up Saturday April 20th to an exciting IMCA Modified feature which witnessed Kenny Miller earning the victory. For the Vancouver, Washington chauffer he would pick up right where he left off in 2012 where he won the last race of the year. It marked Miller’s third win in his last four starts for his VP Brail Services/Race 2A Cure/Jody’s Bar and Grill #57 TRE.

Chris Hallberg of Sandy set the pace early in the Hallberg Race #01 machine for the first ten laps before Jeremy Martin would overtake the position. Martin, of Warren, kept his Reser’s Fine Foods/Wayne Martin Floor Covering #99 McCoy out in front before Miller started to close in on him.

Miller would get a good run on the outside of Martin and the two would race side by side for several laps. Eventually Miller would be able to complete the pass and build his lead. A late race restart brought out a battle for second which allowed Miller to have the necessary breathing room to go on for the win.

“It’s nice to pick up from where we left off from last year,” commented Miller, “the track was pretty smooth. John did a great job preparing it. I know the next race the competition is going to jump up significantly with a lot of new cars coming out. I also got thank my sponsors Jody’s Bar and Grill, GRV Mobile RV Repair, VP Brail Services, Perfection Automotive, Race 2 A Cure, Triple E Ranch”

The Privateer Racing/Ireland and Ireland at Law #8 Dirt Works of Rob Ireland from Banks would get by Martin on the last restart to finish second while Martin would cross the line in third. Fourth would go to Collen Winebarger of Corbett driving the All In Property Investments #67 for car owner Dave Walters while the fifth place finisher was Doug Davenport driving for Clyde White in the Joel Olson Trucking/Spiral Salon/Hinkle Fisheries #75X. Ireland and Miller were victors earlier in the night in heat race action while Ireland would go on to win the evening’s trophy dash.

IMCA Modifieds will return to Sunset Speedway Park on Saturday April 27th. Other classes that will compete include the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series, Street Stocks, PHRA Dwarf Cars, and Women’s. For more information log on to www.sunsetspeedwaypark.com.
