Trio of podium finishes over Fourth of July weekend

Lifting the lid on his Fourth of July weekend, Jensen Ford invaded Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Ga.) on Friday evening for the Stars and Stripes Showdown. With 23 Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series entries on hand, Ford topped the speed charts in his group, which positioned him second on the starting grid for the opening night feature. Unable to close the distance on race-long pacesetter Randy Weaver, Ford settled with a runner-up finish in the 40-lapper. The following night at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) for the Firecracker 40, Jensen locked into the second-starting position for the $5,000-to-win A-Main via his qualifying effort. After pacing the field for the first 39 circuits, Ford was overtaken on the final lap while dealing with a deflating right-rear tire that dropped him back to third. He followed Dakotah Knuckles and Donald McIntosh across the line with Pierce McCarter and Ryan King rounding out the Top-5.

On Sunday at Lake Cumberland Speedway (Burnside, Ky.), Ford followed up the fastest time overall in qualifying with a third-place finish in the feature. He trailed Jimmy Owens and Michael Chilton to the checkers with Devin Gilpin and Dustin Nobbe concluding the Top-5.

Jensen sits atop the Iron-Man Southern Series point standings.
