Skylar Gee Continues Learning Through Three Race Lucas Oil ASCS Run

Bryan Hulbert – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 16, 2018) Taking in three nights of racing with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com this past week, Skylar Gee continues to learn and progress with BDS Motorsports.
“I definitely think we’re better. Our draw is still no good, but I learned a bunch this weekend honestly,” commented Gee of the overall three-race swing.
Taking the green from 15th at Humboldt Speedway, Gee moved forward to finish 13th at the Kansas quarter-mile.
“Humboldt was different. I watched a lot of video before I got there and noticed guys were really having to slow up down on entry, I just didn't realize you had to slow up that much. Early on, I thought the track was going to have more grip and I ended up hitting the wall in Hot Laps, then I did it again in the Heat Race, and that cost me. I really felt like I could have run at least second in the Heat, but with guys like Sam and Seth, you can’t make mistakes like that and not expect them to pounce on it. In the feature, once it went to the bottom there wasn’t much I could do.”
Having to race out of the B-Feature on Thursday at Lakeside Speedway, Skylar again was able to move forward with a run from 18th to 13th.
“Ending up in that B-Main, I honestly didn’t think the top was worth a look. I rolled up there on the parade lap and decided the bottom was the way to go. We got to third and suddenly someone passed me on the top, so I jumped up there and took a few runs at it, got to second, and almost got the lead coming to the checkered so that was a lesson. In the feature, I searched around a lot and moved forward.”
Wrapping up at I-30 Speedway, Skylar was able to race through his Heat Race to grid the A-Feature 12th, but a misstep on the high side sent the No. 99 to the tail as the cause of the caution.
“I started following Tim Crawley around the top. Of anyone in front of me, I figured he knew best how to get around that place and we started really rolling good on the top when everyone else was on the bottom until I hooked a hole going into one. After that, we had nine to go and just couldn’t get rolling again.”
For this weekend, the weather will dictate where the Strongs Crane Service/BDS Motorsports No. 99 will land as the National Tour is off.
