Five Feature Winners Celebrate on Kids Night at I-96 Speedway

Lake Odessa, Michigan (Sunday July 11th, 2014): A sweltering crowd packed the house on Friday night at the I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan. The evening featured a full racing program headlined by the high-powered UMP DIRTcar Late Models. They were joined by the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds, and UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts. It was also kids night at the Speedway where all children were admitted free, given a free bag of popcorn, and had the chance to meet their favorite driver as an autograph session was held on the front stretch.

Nick Jenema picked up the win in the UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts feature event. Christina Sherwood finished second. Cody Ruesink came home in third. Jenama was also the winner of the lone heat race.
The UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks squared off in a feature event that started with Nick Stormzand and Ron Harper on the front row. The race would be taken by the defending UMP DIRTcar Stock Car National Champion Josh Frye took the checkered flag as the winner. Marty French finished just behind in second. Luke Hubbell, Ron Harper, and Sadie Klein rounded out the top five. Frye and Hubbell won the heat races.

15-year old Austin Wonch was the big winner for the UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds feature event after staring from the pole. He finished ahead of Johnny DeYoung who took the second place finish. Chad Maurer, Cory Ruesink, and Calvin Stemler made up the rest of the top five. Don Hintz and Brody Bowser were the heat winners.

The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds saw Ionia, Michigan native Travis Stemler pick up the win, his second of the year at I-96. Jared Guinn finished as the runner up. Jeff Erickson Jr., Collin Thirlby, and Aaron Morey finished off the top five. Travis Stemler and Tim Stemler won the preliminary heat races.

Finally, the UMP DIRTcar Late Models hit the track for their A-Main. Scott Baker and Dona Marcoullier led the field down to chief starter Brett Farmer’s green flag. When the dust finally settled it would be the 2012 UMP DIRTcar Late Model Michigan State & Track Champion Brandon Thirlby getting the big win. 2010 UMP DIRTcar Late Model National Champion Rusty Schlenk finished just behind in second. Dona Marcoullier, Rich Nieser, and Baker completed the top five. The heats were won by Thrilby and Eric Spangler.

This Friday July 18th the I-96 Speedway will be hosting a full racing program featuring the UMP DIRTcar Modifieds. Plus, the UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds, Pro Stocks / Pro Trucks, UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, and UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts. The Pit gates will open at 4:30pm. The grandstands will open at 5:30pm. Hot Laps will take place at 6:30pm, and after pre-race ceremonies/invocation/ national anthem(s) the green flag will fly at 8:00pm.
