I-96 Speedway
Schlenk Continues Winning Ways, With Victory in $1000 to Win Special
Lake Odessa, Michigan (Saturday June 13th, 2014): The I-96 Speedway put another weekend in the books last Friday Night. The fans in the stands were treated to a full 6 in 1 show headlined by a special $1000 to win special for the UMP DIRTcar Late Models. UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks, UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds, Pro Stocks/Pro Trucks, and UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts were made up the rest of the program.
Two-time track champion Rick Peck picked up his first win of the year for the UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts. Scott Rumsey finished just behind in second. Cole Speckin, Cody Owen, and Defending track champion Nick Jenema rounded out the top five. The preliminary heat race was also won by Jenema.
The UMP DIRTcar Street Stocks would see the defending UMP DIRTcar Street Stock national champion Josh Frye make his third trip to victory lane. He picked up the win over Sadie Klein who had to settle for second, Rick Huisken, 18-year old Carlind Forsythe, and Ron Harper who made up the top finishers. Harper and Luke Hubbell won the heats.
Dan Hubbell picked up the win for the Pro Stocks / Pro Trucks. Jesse Playter took the second place finish. Mike Seaman, and C.J. Reisbig completed the field. The lone heat race was also won by Hubbell.
The UMP DIRTcar Pro Modifieds held their feature event. When the checkered flag was displayed it was Milt Mongomery crossing the line first, picking up his first feature win this season. Travis Lacombe finished second. Johnny DeYoung, Chad Mauer, and Kenny Playter finished off the top five. The heats were won by DeYoung and Chad Wernette.
The UMP DIRTcar Modifieds would see the defending track champion, Travis Stemler best the field and go home the big winner. Jeff Erickson Jr. was the runner up. Tim Stemler, Collin Thirlby, and Steve McClees were the top five. Thirlby and Nick Kurtz won the heats.
Finally, the UMP DIRTcar Late Models squared off for the special $1000 to win prize. Rusty Schlenk, who started third, was able to quickly find his way out front and go all the way to get the win. This was his third win of the season. Finishing second was Curtis Roberts. Ryan Vanderveen, Rich Neiser, and 2012- track champion Brandon Thirlby completed the top five. 2011-track champion Tom Sprague Jr and Neiser were the heat winners.
This Friday June 20th the Pit gates will open at 4:30pm, Grandstands will open at 5:30pm, Hot Laps will take place at 6:30pm, and after pre-race ceremonies/Invocation/national anthem(s) racing is set to star at 8:00pm.
