Tyler Erb tames Perth Motorplex for first Australian win

By Ben Shelton (New Waverly, TX) -- Making the most of his first trip abroad, Texan’ Tyler Erb raced to a feature win on Sunday night at Australia’s Perth Motorplex.

Erb piloted the Case Construction #10 XR1 Rocket Chassis Super Late Model to the victory.

“It’s totally different racing in Australia because they start the night by dividing you into groups based on how fast they think you are,” Tyler Erb said. “So some nights a guy that is as fast as anybody else could get put into the slower group, which makes their path to winning the feature a little easier. Luckily, we’ve been fast out of the gate and were able to get a win and a second-place finish. This is my first time outside of the North American continent, and the experience has been amazing so far.”

Kicking off the 2018 season in the “Land Down Under”, Tyler Erb was one of 38 Super Late Models signed in at Perth Motorplex (Kwinana Beach, Western Australia) on Saturday night for the Di Candilo Steel City USA Invasion Tour.

After laying down the ninth-fastest time overall in qualifying, Erb recorded a third-place finish in his first heat before charging to a heat race victory in his second round, which locked him into the opening night feature. Bringing home a podium finish, Tyler landed a runner-up finish behind Jason Fitzgerald with Kye Blight, Paul Stubber, and Warren Oldfield completing the Top-5 finishers.

Returning on Sunday for night two of the Di Candilo Steel City Nationals, Erb bagged a pair of runner-up finishes in his heat races, positioning him third on the starting grid for the A-Main. Jumping into the lead on the opening lap, Tyler led from flag-to-flag to capture his first win of the season, which came over Paul Stubber, Kye Blight, Devin Moran, and Jason Fitzgerald.
