His latest conquest came at I-75 Raceway in Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals competition and was worth $4,053.

"It feels awfully good," McDowell said after his second overall victory in 2021 and first on the Southern Nationals. "It was a good night, a good night for the E-Z-Go hot rod. We were here (in the spring) and led for a little bit — then that guy by the name of Brandon Overton got by us, and we fell back a little bit, fell to third. I didn't know how we were going to be at the start, but then I moved around the racetrack, and it was awfully good. Hat's off to everybody that prepped (the surface) ... it was a good night for us."

After Monday’s stop at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.) was postponed to August 1 by rain, Dale McDowell followed the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals to I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tenn.) on Tuesday afternoon. With 27 Late Models entered, McDowell secured his spot into the main event with the second-fastest lap in his time trial group. Powering ahead of early pacesetter Cody Overton on lap 18, Dale charged to his second win of the season, which came over Ryan King, Jensen Ford, Cory Hedgecock, and John Ownbey. He earned $4,053 for his winning performance.

On Thursday after McDowell announced his intentions to stay on tour for the remainder series, Dale visited West Georgia Speedway (Whitesburg, Ga.) for the Red Clay Revival. After his qualifying effort relegated him to a B-Main, Dale edged his way into the show with a second-place finish. Rolling off 14th, McDowell was an early retiree on lap 18 after slowing with a flat right-rear tire on the seventh circuit.

With Friday’s event at Needmore Speedway (Norman Park, Ga.) rained out, McDowell trekked to Screven Motor Speedway (Sylvania, Ga.) on Saturday for the 22nd annual Rebel Yell. With preliminary results lining him up 10th on the starting grid for the $10,053-to-win A-Main, Dale passed four cars in the 53-lapper to place sixth.

In the weekend finale on Sunday at Rome Speedway (Rome, Ga.), Dale faded two spots in the 40-lap feature to finish fourth. He followed Randy Weaver, Donald McIntosh, and Austin Horton across the line with Dalton Cook finishing fifth.

Dale is currently in fourth in the Southern Nationals point standings.
