Jon Mitchell travels with CCSDS to Missouri and Arkansas
The 2012 COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) champion, Jon Mitchell, followed the competitive Dirt Late Model tour to two events over the weekend.
On Friday, Mitchell’s W&W Timber No. 5 machine was one of 35 Late Models in the pits at the 3/8-mile Poplar Bluff Motorsports Park (Poplar Bluff, Missouri). Mitchell began the evening by finishing ninth in his heat race and was unable to make the call for the B-Main. However, he used a provisional to start 21st on the grid for the night’s main event. Mitchell moved forward throughout the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win contest, turning in a 14th-place effort.
Another $5,000 was on offer the following night at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas), bringing 34 CCSDS competitors to the 3/8-mile oval for the Hillbilly 40. Mitchell locked into the 11th starting spot in the 40-lap A-Main by virtue of a third-place finish in his heat.
An unexpected downpour brought an early end to the night, with the feature event rescheduled for Thursday, August 17, during the COMP Cams Topless 100 weekend.
Mitchell currently sits seventh in series points.
