Kilgore is Killer in Luxemburg Speedway Season Opener

(Luxemburg, WI)- 145 cars entered the pits at Luxemburg Speedway for the season opener on Friday Night. Shawn Kilgore stalked his prey and eventually started the season where he left off in 2015, taking home the top honors with a IMCA Modified Feature win. Car counts included 39 IMCA Stockcars, 35 IMCA Modifieds, 33 IMCA Sportmods, 25 Street Stocks and 13 4 Cylinders.
Other winners included: Kyle Frederick (IMCA Stockcars) J.J. Anderson (IMCA Sportmods) Scott Boulanger (Street Stocks) and Matt Brehmer (4 Cylinders)
Luke Lemmens drew the number one pill and was able to start on the pole position for the IMCA Modified Feature. Lemmens took advantage of his opportunity and snatched the lead early. Lemmens led but not without stiff competition from Brian Mullen. Lemmens was able to pull away but his lead would not be safe. Defending Champion Shawn Kilgore quickly made his presence felt. Kilgore ran to the front and reached Lemmens on lap 12. Kilgore went to the outside and grabbed the lead on the next lap. Lemmens was able to stay close for a couple of laps but in the end it was the Kilgore show. Kilgore left with the point lead after picking up the win late. Lemmens finished second with Mullen third. Mike Mashl ran to fourth with Benji LaCrosse rounded out the top five. The race went caution free.

Larry Karcz Jr led the opening two circuits of the IMCA Stockcar Showdown. Karcz quickly became the target of Kyle Frederick. Frederick grabbed the lead up top and would stay in charge until the lone caution on lap 13. On the restart, John Heinz and Troy Muench would come calling for the lead. A three wide battle would ensue with Heinz down low, Muench in the middle and Frederick on top. Frederick would use his momentum off the corners to continue to lead. Frederick would keep everyone at bay late to pick up the win earning the clean sweep on the evening. Dave Bouche drove a chess match of a race and picked up second from the sixth row. Muench beat Heinz to the line for third. Brandon Czarapata finished fifth.

J.J. Anderson came to Luxemburg Speedway. J.J. Anderson conquered the IMCA Sportmod’s first Feature. Anderson wanted no part of the competition and flew away from the field. Anderson would set his racer on cruise control and only encounter lapped traffic the rest of the way. Anderson picked up the win by a half lap in the caution free race. Jacob Zellner won the race for second over Hunter Parsons. Scott Boyea returned to the speedway with a fourth place finish. Cody Rass finished fifth.

Shawn Haydon had his 56’ Chevy ready for Street Stock competition. Problem for him was so did Scott Boulanger. Haydon led early in the Main Event and was in control of the competition. Boulanger moved from his sixth starting row to third in three laps. Haydon would lead until a caution would fly on the third lap. Boulanger started on the outside and grabbed the lead almost immediately on the outside. Boulanger pulled away and worked through lapped traffic. A final caution set up a green, white, checker finish. Boulanger held serve and picked up the win in front of Haydon. James Dahlstrom came on strong to finish third late. Dan Van Pay ran to fourth with Allen Dillon finishing fifth.

Matt Brehmer won a race long duel over Calvin Stueck to pick up the 4 Cylinder Feature win. They swapped the lead many times in the game of cat and mouse. Brehmer earned a clean sweep on the evening with the win. Hollie Welch finished third with Kevin Rabe and Shawn Olson trailing at the checkered flag.

Next Friday Night, May 13th racing will start at 7 p.m. It will be Coors Light Night at the races. All five divisions will be in action. Go to www.luxemburgspeedway.com for all track information.
