Amantea Scores Top Five During USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Event at Selinsgrove Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (June 22, 2021) – Joey Amantea recorded one of his best results of the season with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars on Thursday night when he finished fourth at Selinsgrove Speedway.

“Honestly, we were going to run the whole USAC Eastern Storm week, but we had a lot going on and things just didn’t go as we’d planned,” he said. “We were not really in a hurry to run with the 410 guys anyway and we ended up with a decent run in the 360 so it really worked out for us.”

Amantea, who was making only his second career start at the track, kicked off the evening by advancing one position in a heat race to finish fourth. He then lined up from the pole position for the feature thanks to a favorable redraw. Amantea led the opening three laps of the event. However, he made what he deemed a rookie mistake on entry to a turn that cost him a handful of positions and he settled for fourth at the completion of the event.

“The redraw has really been my friend here lately and this time we didn’t fade as much as before,” he said. “It feels like it’s been forever since we were in the top five and it shows we are continuing to gain and learn.”

The top-five finish was the second of the season with the series for Amantea and fourth overall in 2021. It also spring boarded the Mt. Pocono, Pa., native up one position in the championship standings to seventh – 27 points out of fifth place.

“To be sitting seventh at this point in the year is a bit better than I thought we’d be at this point,” he said. “We had a goal to win rookie of the year honors, but the top rookie is the points leader and our fate might be sealed in terms of that award. So now we are shifting gears a bit to where a top five in points would be a success and that’s what we are aiming for.”

Amantea will return to winged 360 racing as he’s set to join the United Racing Club at Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa., on Friday. He’s also planning on competing in a trio of events this week in his 600cc wingless micro sprint. On Wednesday he’ll be at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa., followed by a stop at Greenwood Valley Action Track in Orangeville, Pa., for the Firecracker 500 on Saturday and a Poker Series event at Spirit Auto Center Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J., on Sunday.

“My biggest learning curve has been the winged sprint car world and every chance we get to run one we need to take advantage of it,” he said. “I really want to get another win in the 600 micro division, but that would be just the cherry on top if we can run well in the winged 360. I think it’s going to be a good weekend and if we can do well Wednesday I think we’ll hit a few more winged shows here coming up.”
