Minnesota Missile Monday: Finally on the Dirt
With all the returning winter weather things didn’t look good for racing this past weekend as practice was cancelled at English Creek and nearly all other tracks in the region. Luckily for 1KC Motorsports, the Newton Kart Klub and crew put in the efforts and were able to hold their practice on Saturday afternoon and KC was able to finally get into his new karts and see what they could do.
The team arrived shortly after practice had started and found a good field of karts willing to try out their new 2019 rides. After the first round of testing, the team had the first kart ready to roll and strapped KC in for hot laps. Having been out of the seat since Turkey Chase 2018, some rust was expected as KC headed out for his first laps on the track. Given the instruction to run his best racing line, don’t follow slower karts, and do his best, KC took a couple laps to get some open track and was hammer down. He recorded the fastest time he has run at NKK with a top speed on 43.2 MPH on the 1/6th mile track. When he returned to the pit, he was full of confidence and talking a million miles a minute as he was telling his Dad about the track, his lines, and passing karts. The team decided to park the first kart as it had speed and felt comfortable.
It was time to roll out kart number two and see what KC could do with it on the track. KC was sent out with ten other karts and when the green flew to give them their practice laps, KC was instantly on the gas. He clicked off some impressive laps and refused to wait behind the slower karts. He passed every kart on the track in the short practice session and was again very excited to tell about it. With the confidence and speed, the team decided to watch the rest of the afternoon as well as catch up with racing friends with the karts loaded up and ready for next weekend.
