Clay Harris outduels competitors for first-career Super Late Model victory at Whynot

Beginning his extended weekend on Thursday afternoon with Castrol FloRacing Night in America, Clay Harris entered his No. 6H machine into battle at Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.) for the $23,023-to-win Tar Heel 53.

Following the 11th-fastest lap in his qualifying group, Harris slipped back in his heat race and missed the feature by just one position in his B-Main.

Traveling to Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Miss.) overnight, Clay Harris was one of 46 Late Model drivers checked in for the weekend's Coors Light Fall Classic.

With a pair of preliminary features slated for Friday evening, Clay stopped the clock fourth-fastest in his group before earning a spot in the first prelim feature with a third-place finish in his heat. Starting the short 30-lap feature from the fourth row, Harris quickly advanced into the Top-3 before moving into the top spot after the leaders tangled battling for the lead. With just a handful of laps remaining, Clay fought off Chad Thrash and Garrett Alberson in the closing laps to secure his first-career Super Late Model triumph. His efforts earned him a $3,000 paycheck.

For Saturday's $15,000-to-win finale, Harris stormed to a heat race victory which placed him in the fifth-position for the main event. Completing all 60-laps of the Fall Classic, Clay brought home a fifth-place finish as he trailed Ashton Winger, Tyler Erb, Dennis Erb Jr., and Oakley Johns.
